ACCREDITED PROGRAMMES OVERSEAS
16 Nov 2012

Following queries from prospective students, please find below useful links for programme accredited by the respective local Engineering authority in England, France, Malaysia and Australia. More information will be added to this page as and when they become available.

Engineering programmes are deemed to meet the academic requirement of Council if they also meet the requirements of the Engineering authority of the country of origin leading to the title of Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer, Ingénieur Diplomé or equivalent in that respective country of origin.

China

Council has not been able, yet, to find the Engineering Council of China online, except for the very few Universities mentioned in the link below:

http://www.accreditation.org/university/search?country=cn

Consequently, there is no current information as to the accredited status of other engineering programmes offered by Chinese Universities.

Prospective students are STRONGLY advised to request written confirmation from any tertiary educational agent purporting that a degree programme is recognised and to cross-verify same with Council prior to embarking on any commitment for further studies in those Universities.

Notwithstanding the above, should a degree awarded by a Chinese University be accredited by any one of the signatories of the Washington Accord, same will be recognised as meeting the requirement for an eventual registration as a Professional Engineer in Mauritius.

As regards Engineering programmes run by foreign Universities in China, prospective students are advised that these programmes will have to follow the requirements of the country of origin. Hence, for example, for a UK University offering a purported engineering programme on its Chinese campus, the requirements of that degree are same as those from England, as elaborated below.

England

http://www.engc.org.uk/education--skills/accreditation/accredited-course-search

Students are informed that only 4 year M.Eng degrees (accredited in the C.Eng section of ECUK) or a combination of a 3 year B.Eng degree + a further learning course (meeting the requirement of ECUK for an eventual registration as a Chartered Engineer) would meet the academic requirement of CRPE for an eventual registration in Mauritius.

Council's attention has been drawn to a BSc in Civil Engineering degree being run by a local institution and with a UK institution as the awarding body. Prospective students are informed that this qualification, either alone, or in combination with a MSc is NOT recognised as meeting the academic requirements for the professional practice of engineering.

France

Students are informed that a Diplome d’Ingénieur issued by a French University or Grande École or other educational institution recognised and approved by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur from France as meeting its requirement for the title of "Ingénieur Diplomé" in France is the Council's default accepted French qualification and is recognised as meeting the Council's academic requirement for eventual registration as a Registered Professional Engineer in Mauritius.

Holders of the combined French qualifications of Licence, Master 1 and Master 2 will only meet the Council's academic requirement for registration as a Professional Engineer if they have pursued their studies and have eventually graduated with a Diplome d'Ingénieur from an institution approved by the CTI, as per the above paragraph.
